Giovanna Bartels is a researcher at the CERIS research unit – "Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability" – IST-ID. She studies Civil Engineering at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) in Brazil and participated of the Bologna Master's in Civil Engineering from 2022 to 2023 at Técnico Lisboa in Portugal.

As a researcher at Técnico, she has primarily collaborated on two research projects: "EFFICACY- Energy Efficiency buIlding and CirculaR eConomY for thermal insulating solutions" and "SRS- Smart Roofs System."

She has worked with on-site monitoring of construction projects, focusing on quality and environmental aspects, and their correlation with service execution procedures. She has also been involved in conducting quantity surveys, budgeting, project planning and preparation of documents for financing projects in Brazil.
