Giovanna Bartels is a PhD Candidate in Civil Engineering at the Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability (CERIS), Department of Civil Engineering (DECivil), Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, since February 2025.

She holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), Minas Gerais, Brazil, and undertook a one-year exchange program within the Bologna Master’s in Civil Engineering from 2022 to 2023 at Técnico Lisboa, Portugal.

As a researcher at Técnico, she has collaborated on projects such as EFFICACY – Energy Efficiency buIlding and CirculaR eConomY for thermal insulating solutions, SRS – Smart Roofs System, SHELLTER – Reuse of aquaculture waste in the development of construction materials, and BLOCOYSTER – Sustainable blocks with the incorporation of aquaculture waste.
